Safe Lites created a unique line of high-visibility safety apparel for law enforcement officers. Our challenge was to design a wearable power pack that was small, affordable, and provided feedback on remaining power.
FAST FORWARD
By researching end-user requirements, our design team was able to create a package for a rechargeable lithium battery that was comfortable to wear, had easy access controls, and incorporated a color that not only supported the Safe Lites brand, but also made the power pack easy to find in a cluttered, dimly lit patrol car.
FINISH
The overall product won Best of Show at the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and is currently in use with the Minnesota State Patrol, Alaska State Troopers, and NYPD.

Industrial Design
Performed usability studies. Designed product that was first to market. Helped create a new product group.
Mechanical Engineering
Tested and created thermal management. Transitioned to manufacturing.
Electrical Engineering
Engineered electronics. Directed battery management and created battery gauge.
Tested for CE, ECC, UL, EMI, and EMC compliance.
