Going for the gold.

When engineers at ATS Medical needed to quickly refine their next generation CryoMaze^TM Clamp and Surgical Ablation Probe they returned to proven Product Design and Mechanical Engineering design resources at Logic. The CryoMaze product is a minimally invasive surgical instrument that uses an argon-based cryoablation process to create tissue ablations according to the CoxMaze III procedure. CoxMaze III is the "gold standard" pattern of tissue ablations with the goal of curing patients suffering from atrial fibrillation, and CryoMaze is the only device capable of creating these lesion patterns with a single product and energy source.

Working closely with ATS Medical to understand surgeon's needs and procedure requirements, Logic's designers help reduced overall product size and decrease part count while improving overall functionality, robustness and ergonomics. There's a lot of magic happening in a very small space: the probe is able to be detached and used separately from the clamping mechanism and between the probe and the outer clamp handle housings, lies a smooth intricate set of cable pulleys, springs, and trigger that combine into an intuitive single-handed clamping mechanism and accommodate different tissue thickness.  The prize?: form and function work in symphony to increase procedure accuracy, shorten patient recovery, and reduce the need for follow-up procedures.
